2024 Perennial of the Year: Jeana
2024’s selection is ‘Jeana’, a Phlox paniculata that is quite resistant to powdery mildew.
Don’t overcrowd ‘Jeana’ – like most garden phlox, air circulation is imperative. She is tall and sturdy at 3’+ (approximately 1 metre) and the same wide and hardy for Ottawa. With somewhat fragrant lavender-pink flowers…although the blooms are a bit smaller than those of usual garden phlox… ‘Jeana’ prefers 6 hours sun and is a welcome addition to a perennial border and a pollinator garden.
Search out a moist, fertile and well-drained area in your garden. Inter-planting with shasta daisies and switch grasses can look quite stunning.
