Weed seeds and corn gluten fertilizer

Most of us think that if you want to arrest the germination of crab grass seed, you should apply corn gluten when the forsythia is in bloom. That’s right, but you can continue to apply corn gluten fertilizer in your garden beds and lawns to stave off germinating weed seeds later in the year.

Remember, however, corn gluten should not be applied where you do want seed germination e.g. lawns, veggie gardens or beds of newly seeded flowers. You must wait six weeks before seeding.

We have a few customers that even put corn gluten on their patios to stop the wayward seeds from germinating in the cracks!
